
What is self-care? To some people, self-care is going to sleep early, exercising daily, or eating foods that make you feel good. To others, self-care might refer to paying bills on time, taking a break, or hanging out with friends. These answers are all correct.
The formal definition of self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness. Honoring your mind, body, and spirit are key components to activate your best self.
Some may only view self-care as fun and relaxing, but this isn’t always the case. It often involves checking things off your overwhelming to-do list (such as laundry, cleaning the bathroom, etc.). To create a healthy balance, household chores and long workdays need to be part of the process. After all, no amount of yoga classes or little gifts to yourself will keep your responsibilities from weighing on you if you don’t give them the attention they need.
Self-care does not have to be expensive. It is personal to the individual and is balanced among life’s daily requirements. As long as you can promise to do one small thing for yourself daily to boost happiness and increase tranquility, you are practicing self-care effectively.
